‘If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them.’ —Henry David Thoreau

Imagination is the creative ability of your mind that helps you form an image of an object or an experience before you bring it to physical reality. The Power of imagination helps you visualize things that cannot be seen. Simply put, imagination is seeing through mental images. This power is inherent in all of us and can be developed to a very high level.

Martial arts. I used to train everywhere I went. I wasn’t typical and I took private lessons for the most part. I had a passion for it and I wasn’t satisfied with moving at the pace of the slowest person in the class. It probably cost me 8 or 9 times more, but I learned quite a bit…and I bypassed years of classroom training.

I would always reverse-engineer the moves so that I could gain an understanding of why it is designed that way. I would practice solo, and imagine a situation where I would put this to use, for the sake of training my mind. There’s no use in knowing the techniques if you’re going to panic in a real-life situation. The only way to learn this, was to place myself in real situations. But I knew the subconscious mind didn’t know the difference between real or an emotionalized visualization.

“Tough situations don’t last but tough people do”, that’s the truth behind successful achievers. We are all familiar with Malcolm Gladwell’s famous book, which deals with the factors contributing to phenomenal success. He discusses the cases of people you have proved their mettle, like Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, the rock band Beatles and many more, addressing them as “outliers”. According to him “outliers” are people who do not fit into our normal understanding of achievement, but go way beyond. That’s what we all aim to be in the one coveted life that we have: outliers!

Despite being endowed with impressive talents and encountering the best opportunities in life, success could still be a far fetched dream for many. Business entrepreneurs and leaders are in continuous pursuit of true success, for their teams in particular and organization as a whole. Motivational speakers are hired by many to ensure unflinching dedication and focus, which surely makes success much more achievable. Able orators can pack a true punch with their words and inspire the entire workforce to put in their best. Most of them have sound functional knowledge in the given domains and can relate to the associated obstacles, offering simple solutions for the same.

I am Dennis Andrew and am going to give a summary on one of the topics that I cover in my motivational/keynote presentations. As a motivational speaker, I have several topics, but this article will briefly talk about “Setting Goals for Success.” In my bio, I have included a link to a short motivational speech that I did in Ohio. My presentations as a motivational speaker are often in large organizations, but I have a special passion for speaking to students. University/College students tend to really process the messages which lead to incredible transformations. This article summary will be largely covered in the included Ohio motivational presentation on “Setting Goals for Success.”

The way people go about setting goals is what determines a success or a failure. People who have goals “and follow through with them” succeed…everyone else fails. Notice that you will not even be tempted to give up on your pursuit unless the going gets tough. But the victory is to those who don’t give up…and only they who realize that the level of difficulty is irrelevant, will be those who pay no attention to the promptings that tell you to give up. This leads us to a question: What is a goal?
